The Twitter account of Belgium’s foreign minister was hacked late on Tuesday after a meeting of trade ministers in Luxembourg that did not break Walloon’s resistance against the signing of the EU-Canada trade deal.
In a tweet that has now been removed from the account, Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders posted a meme of former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper saying “Hey Canada, F—k You!”
Hours later the account was back under control of the Belgian Foreign Ministry.
This morning, on Twitter, Reynders said: “My personal account is operating again under my control. Thanks for your understanding & sorry for the inconvenience.”
Belgium can’t sign the free trade agreement between Brussels and Ottawa without the consent of its regional parliaments, including two hostile Walloon assemblies that have voted against CETA.
Reynders has been very supportive of the EU-Canada free trade deal.
