The physical edition of Hollow Knight has been cancelled.
Developer Team Cherry had partnered with publisher Skybound Games to release Hollow Knight on discs, but both parties have walked away from the deal.
Skybound tweeted to say it was no longer working with Team Cherry on the physical edition of Hollow Knight.
We are saddened to share that we?ll no longer be working with @TeamCherryGames to bring #HollowKnight to new platforms. We absolutely love the game and wish Team Cherry continued success. We look forward to seeing what?s next for them. pic.twitter.com/Cyp9tniGKu

And then Team Cherry expanded on the news, saying bringing its well-received Metroidvania to store shelves was too much work for such a small team.
“As a team of three people still in intensive production of Hollow Knight, taking the game into the retail space (even with the extensive assistance of Skybound) proved more work than we could reasonably manage,” reads the statement.
“In future we will investigate other ways to deliver physical versions of Hollow Knight, though likely that will be in smaller quantities.
“We’d like to thank Skybound for the amazing opportunity they provided, and for their professionalism and enthusiasm the whole way.”
Team Cherry recently-released Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which includes the entire game and all the expansion content. It launched first for PC in February 2017, then Nintendo Switch in June 2018, and has, all platforms combined, sold over 1m copies.
